Growth strategist for Amsterdam companies

In short

I work remotely with Amsterdam teams as a fractional growth lead: owning SEO & GEO, paid media, CRO, attribution and AI automation — and building Shopify stores when the store is the bottleneck. Engagements start with a one-week audit (≈ €1,400).

The Amsterdam growth market

Amsterdam is a favourite European base for international scale-ups, with strong clusters in payments, travel tech, SaaS and sustainable consumer brands. The Dutch market is small but highly digital and demanding: shoppers expect fast delivery, local payment methods and honest pricing, and B2B buyers research thoroughly before they ever speak to sales.

What I see in Amsterdam

  • Many companies use Amsterdam as their EU headquarters and launch from here into Germany, Belgium and France, so growth plans have to account for several languages and marketplaces rather than one domestic market.
  • bol.com is the leading marketplace in the Netherlands and Flanders, and brands have to decide deliberately which products they sell there and which they keep exclusive to their own store.
  • Dutch consumers strongly favour iDEAL and expect to see it at checkout; a store that only offers cards can lose buyers at the final step.
  • Dutch business culture values directness, so growth reporting that is candid about what is not working tends to build trust faster than polished presentations.

Search & AI discovery in Amsterdam

Most Dutch people speak excellent English, yet they still search in Dutch when they are ready to buy, and Dutch-language result pages are far less crowded than English ones. Treating the Netherlands as an English market is a common and expensive mistake. Localised Dutch pages, reviews on Dutch platforms and nl-NL versus nl-BE targeting all influence Google rankings and how AI assistants describe your brand to Dutch buyers.

Privacy & tracking: GDPR (AVG), UAVG & Dutch Telecommunications Act

The Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens actively checks websites for misleading cookie banners and does not accept cookie walls that block access unless visitors agree to tracking. I implement banners with an equally visible reject option and use server-side tagging so measurement survives realistic consent rates.

FAQ

Working with clients in Amsterdam

Should our marketing in the Netherlands be in Dutch or English?

For B2B tech, English often works for early adopters, but conversion and search volume improve once key pages exist in Dutch. For consumer brands, Dutch is essential. I work with native Dutch writers and check everything against search data before it goes live.

Can you help us expand from Amsterdam into Germany and Belgium?

Yes. I plan market entry country by country, including language versions, marketplace choices such as bol.com or Zalando, local payment methods and separate performance tracking for each market.

How do you invoice Dutch companies?

I invoice in EUR or USD. For cross-border business services the reverse-charge mechanism usually applies, meaning your company accounts for Dutch BTW. Your accountant confirms how it is recorded.

Should we sell on bol.com or keep sales on our own webshop?

Usually a deliberate mix. bol.com brings reach and trust with Dutch and Flemish shoppers, but commission and side-by-side price comparison with other sellers squeeze margin. I typically list a focused range there, keep new launches, bundles or exclusive products on your own store, and compare contribution margin and repeat purchases by channel before widening the marketplace range.
